In 1988, after 34 years of hands-on experience working in the metals industry, Ian McKinnon decided to open his own small metals business. He left his position with a prominent Canadian metal distributor and along with his wife Denyse opened a 6000 sq.ft small metals business on Millway Avenue in Concord.
At the time selling metals in small quantities was still a new concept. However, the idea
soon gained acceptance and the Concord store prospered and grew to its present size of over 14,000 sq.ft. Ian’s success in the Concord location led him to open additional stores, Rexdale in 1995 and Markham in 1998. Now after almost two decades as a franchisee, Ian McKinnon has again decided to branch out on his own.
“McKinnon Metals” is truly a family business which accounts for much for its success and growth over the past two decades. Helping Ian operate his business is his daughter and President, Cindy Lawson and his son and Vice President of Sales & Operations, Craig McKinnon. Ian’s son-in-law David Lawson is the Manager of the Rexdale store and another daughter, Debbie Ferguson is the Credit Manager for all three stores.
